History
Contributed by Robert
Hilliard, Vice President and Chairman of the Board of Directors
On January 16, 1993, a group
of men who loved to ride motorcycles organized a motorcycle club.
They were: Reverend Louis Jackson, William Brooks, Robert Clark,
Robert Green, Douglas Hill, Robert Hilliard, George Price, Solomon
Meney, Melvin Sample, William Washington and Don Willis. They
comprise the clubs Charter Members. The club name, Crusaders
(Crusaders Motorcycle Club of Virginia) was obtained from Reverend
Louis Jackson. The word "crusaders" is defined as any energetic
movement used to remove evil or to improve a situation. We are
crusaders for Christ and our mission is to win souls for Him.
In March 1993, the Crusaders
became charted and sanctioned as a non-profit organization.
During this time, the
Crusaders grew to have 18 members and one honorary member (Reverend
Louis Jackson). Members resided in the City of Fredericksburg and
the Counties of Spotsylvania, Caroline, Stafford and Culpeper,
Virginia.
It was determined that
meetings would be held every 1st Friday of the month, and as a
sanctioned organization the club established and followed rules,
regulations, and by-laws governed by the organization for members to
follow. The Crusaders traveled over 12,000 miles through out the
Commonwealth of Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland, South Carolina,
North Carolina, West Virginia and Delaware.
Out of respect, we stop,
reflect and give God all the glory, honor and praise for the growth
we received spiritually and financially. As a non-profit, the
Crusaders contributed over $5,000 over a two year period to various
non-profit organizations in Culpeper and Spotsylvania counties; the
Culpeper Homeless Shelter, Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Spotsylvania -
Missionary, J. J. Wright Alumina, the Culpeper Free Clinic,
Culpeper's Kidney Dialysis Center, the Fredericksburg Area Sickle
Cell Association and the Richmond Children's Hospital - Teddy Bear
Run.
On June 10, 1995 we held a
fundraiser for Mrs. Lana Thompson of Spotsylvania who needed a
kidney transplant.
We look forward to
accomplishing many more things for the communities, our fellow man
and the advancement of our organization - the Crusaders Motorcycle
Club of Virginia.
We, the members of the
Crusaders Motorcycle Club are truly thankful for the members who
have worked faithfully over the pass years to enable us to witness
five years of unselfish service to our fellow man and the
surrounding communities.
